Illustrative Verse

“Who is wise? Let them realize these things. Who is discerning? Let them understand. The ways of the Lord are right; the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious stumble in them.”

Hosea 14:9

Explanation

Its believed that Hosea was the first to use the metaphor of marriage as a picture of our covenant with God. God instructs Hosea to marry an unfaithful woman. And as she is serially unfaithful to him, he continues to find her, restore her, and bring her back home. God makes it clear through this prophet that he sees his relationship with Israel in the same light.
