Azur and Azzur
Azur, or Azzur, was the father of Hananiah the false prophet, the father of Jaazaniah, and the name of a person who signed the covenant after the exile.
Definition
Azur, or Azzur, is the name of several men. One was the father of Hananiah the false prophet; another was the father of Jaazaniah; and another was among those who sealed the covenant with the Lord after the return from Babylon. The name means “helper.”
Biblical Usage
The bearers appear in the accounts of Jeremiah’s conflict with Hananiah, the princes associated with Ezekiel’s message, and the postexilic covenant community.
