Noadiah
Noah was a righteous man who walked with God, built the ark by divine command, and was preserved with his family through the Flood. He became an ancestor of the post-Flood human family.
Definition
Noadiah means “meeting with the Lord” or “tryst of Yah.” The name belonged to two people: a Levite entrusted with the sacred vessels brought from Babylon by Ezra, and a prophetess associated with opposition to Nehemiah.
Biblical Usage
The Levite Noadiah helped guard the gold, silver, and sacred vessels entrusted to Ezra. The prophetess Noadiah joined Tobiah and Sanballat in opposing Nehemiah’s work and is described as among those who resisted him.
Historical Background
Noadiah was a personal name used for more than one Israelite. The Levite returned from Babylon with Ezra, while the prophetess belonged to the period of Nehemiah’s work in Jerusalem.

Meeting with the Lord. (1.) A Levite who returned from Babylon (Ezra 8:33). (2.) A false prophetess who assisted Tobiah and Sanballat against the Jews (Neh. 6:14). Being bribed by them, she tried to stir up discontent among the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and so to embarrass Nehemiah in his great work of rebuilding the ruined walls of the city.
