Rabbath of the Children of Ammon was the principal city of the Ammonites. It was the fortified city called Rabbah or Rabbath and stood east of the Jordan.
Rabbath of the Ammonites was besieged and captured during David’s reign after prolonged resistance. Its fall marked the conclusion of David’s conquests against the Ammonites.
The city was later called Philadelphia and was identified with the site of modern Amman.
