ADAM IN THE NEW TESTAMENT
The New Testament presents Adam as the historical ancestor and representative head of humanity. Through Adam came sin and death; in contrast, Christ is the head of the redeemed race, bringing righteousness and life.
Biblical Usage
Luke traces Jesus’ ancestry to Adam. Paul contrasts Adam and Christ as two heads, whose acts produce opposing results: sin, death, and judgment through Adam, and righteousness, life, and redemption through Christ. Adam is also used in arguments concerning creation and the relation of man and woman.
