AGAPE
The Agape was a communal love-feast associated with the early Christian church. It expressed fellowship and care for the needy and was related to, though distinguishable from, the Lord’s Supper.
Biblical Usage
The common meal appears in the fellowship of the Jerusalem church, in Corinth, and in Troas. The Lord’s Supper involved bread and wine and remembrance of Christ, while the Agape included a general meal. Abuses at Corinth helped make the distinction important.
