AGRARIAN LAWS

Law & Covenant • Old Testament
Agrarian laws governed Israel’s land, including the sabbatical year and Jubilee. They required rest for the land, protected the poor, and provided for the return or redemption of family property.
Biblical Usage
Every seventh year the land was to lie fallow, with its produce available for people and animals. After seven sabbaths of years, the fiftieth year was hallowed as Jubilee. Land sold under economic pressure could be redeemed or return to its original family.
