Ahab was king of Israel and husband of Jezebel. He promoted Baal worship, opposed God’s prophets, and permitted Naboth’s unjust death; Scripture presents him as a notably wicked ruler.
Biblical Usage
Ahab added Baal worship to Israel’s calf worship, opposed Elijah, and tolerated the persecution of the Lord’s prophets. He coveted Naboth’s vineyard and allowed Jezebel to arrange Naboth’s false accusation and death. He ignored Micaiah’s warning, went to battle at Ramoth-gilead, and died from an arrow shot at random.
