Alcimus was a high priest during the Maccabean period, serving under Syrian political support. He opposed the Maccabees, acted cruelly toward the Jews, and died after regaining the office.
Biblical Usage
Alcimus opposed the Maccabees, was installed at Jerusalem by Syrian military power, and became hated because of his cruelties. After renewed conflict he regained the high priesthood but died soon afterward from a paralytic stroke.
