An alliance is a treaty or covenant between individuals or nations. Biblical alliances were confirmed by oaths, sacrifices, feasts, salt, gifts, or memorial stones, and faithfulness to them was considered binding.
Biblical Usage
Abraham allied with Canaanite chiefs and Abimelech; Joshua and Israel entered an agreement with the Gibeonites; Solomon allied with Hiram and Pharaoh. Israel was also warned against alliances that threatened its separation from the inhabitants’ practices.
