Alliances were agreements between Israel and other peoples for peace, trade, military aid, or mutual advantage. They were often sealed by oath, sacrifice, a feast, or a covenant memorial.
Biblical Usage
Solomon made commercial treaties with Hiram of Tyre and Pharaoh. Later kings formed alliances with Syria, Assyria, Egypt, Babylon, and neighboring kingdoms, sometimes with harmful political and religious results.
