Amorites
The Amorites were a warlike people whose name could describe the inhabitants of the hill country, the people of Canaan generally, or the specific kingdom ruled by Sihon. Joshua defeated them, and their kingdom disappeared from biblical history after the conquest.
Biblical Usage
Joshua defeated the five Amorite kings and later defeated Amorite forces at Merom. Scripture sometimes uses “Amorite” broadly for Canaanite inhabitants, including the older population of Judah and the Gibeonites, while elsewhere it refers specifically to Sihon’s kingdom.
