The word ark refers chiefly to Noah’s vessel, which preserved his household and representatives of the animals from the Flood. It also refers to the small basket that preserved Moses and, in another Hebrew word, the sacred Ark of the Covenant.
Biblical Usage
Noah’s ark preserved his household and representatives of living creatures from the Flood. Moses’s ark preserved the infant Moses. The sacred Ark of the Covenant was associated with God’s covenant presence, Israel’s journeys, the tabernacle, the crossing of the Jordan, Jericho, and Solomon’s temple.
