Azekah
Places & Geography • Old Testament
Azekah was a fortified town in the lowlands of Judah. Joshua’s army defeated the Amorites near it, and it later appeared in accounts of Philistine conflict, Judah’s defenses, and the return from exile.
Biblical Usage
Joshua’s forces defeated the Amorites near Azekah, where great stones fell from heaven. The Philistines later camped between Socoh and Azekah before David’s combat with Goliath. Rehoboam fortified it, and it was later among the Judahite towns reoccupied after the exile.
