BABYLONIA
Babylonia was the fertile alluvial land between the Tigris and Euphrates, bounded by Assyria, Elam, the southern marshes, and the Syrian desert. It was a major center of ancient kingdoms, cities, languages, writing, and exile.
Biblical Usage
Babylonia is associated with places and peoples appearing in biblical history, including Shinar, Accad, Sumer, Chaldaea, the deportation of Israelites and Jews, and the Aramaic documents mentioned in Ezra. Its records also preserve information concerning peoples living there during biblical periods.
