A book in Scripture is a written record, commonly preserved on a scroll or other material. The Bible also speaks of symbolic books, including the book of the covenant, the book of judgment, and the book of life.
Biblical Usage
Scripture mentions the book of the covenant, books of judgment, historical books, sealed books, and the book of life. To eat a book means to receive and study its contents carefully. The book of life represents a register of those belonging to the redeemed community and registered in heaven.
