Calah was one of the ancient cities associated with Assyria and Nimrod’s kingdom. It is commonly identified with the extensive ruins at Nimrud near the Tigris and was an important Assyrian royal center.
Biblical Usage
Calah is named in the account of the cities built in Assyria after Nimrod went forth from the land of Shinar. Its biblical mention places it among the ancient centers of Assyrian power.
