Captivity

The captivity describes the forced removal of Israel by Assyria and Judah by Babylon. Cyrus later permitted many Jewish exiles to return and rebuild Jerusalem.
Biblical Usage
The captivity is presented in connection with Israel’s and Judah’s disobedience, the destruction of their kingdoms, and the prophetic period of seventy years. Daniel and other Jews were taken to Babylon, while later exiles returned in stages.
