Chariot
A chariot was a wheeled vehicle used chiefly in warfare, though also for travel and ceremony. Scripture also uses chariots figuratively for power, divine hosts, and God’s mighty acts.
Biblical Usage
Chariots appear in accounts of Joseph, Pharaoh’s pursuit of Israel, Canaanite and Philistine warfare, David’s conquests, Solomon’s army, and the Ethiopian official’s journey. Figuratively, they represent hosts, power, God’s heavenly or saving action, and the strength associated with Elijah and Elisha. Elijah was taken up in a chariot of fire.
