Citizenship
Citizenship means the rights and privileges belonging to a citizen. In the New Testament, Roman citizenship provided legal protections, including exemption from certain punishments and the right of appeal to Caesar; believers are also described as citizens of heaven.
Biblical Usage
Roman citizenship gave Paul protection from imprisonment or scourging without formal trial and the right of appeal to Caesar. Scripture also uses citizenship spiritually: believers are described as citizens of a heavenly commonwealth and urged to live worthily of it.
