CREMATION

Death & Afterlife • Both
Cremation was not the ordinary method of disposing of the dead among the Hebrews and other ancient peoples of the East, who generally practiced burial. The Bible contains no clear example of Christian cremation, though the source does not treat cremation itself as inherently anti-Christian.
Biblical Usage
Amos may refer to burning in a context of pestilence or divine judgment. Paul’s reference to giving his body to be burned accommodates the customs of Corinth. The burning at Asa’s burial concerned spices and furniture, not cremation, and the New Testament contains no clear instance of cremation.
