Cross

Jesus Christ • New Testament
The cross was the instrument of Christ’s crucifixion and became the central sign of His atoning death. Jesus also used it figuratively for the suffering and self-denial His followers must accept.
Biblical Usage
Jesus used the cross figuratively for the severe affliction and self-denial required of His followers. In apostolic preaching it represents the doctrine of the atonement, the bond between Jew and Gentile, union with Christ, and sanctification.
