Cup

Objects & Symbols • Both
A cup was a vessel for drinking, but Scripture also uses it for one’s allotted condition, whether blessing, suffering, judgment, or wrath. In the Lord’s Supper, the cup represents the new covenant in Christ’s blood.
Biblical Usage
The cup may signify salvation, consolation, blessing, prosperity, adversity, or God’s wrath. In the Lord’s Supper it is the cup of blessing and the new covenant in Christ’s blood, contrasted with the cup of demons. Jesus also speaks of the cup of suffering.
