Elder

An elder was an older and respected leader who represented the people and exercised authority in Israelite society. In the New Testament church, elders were overseers and shepherds of the congregation, also called bishops or presbyters.
Biblical Usage
Old Testament elders represented Israel, attended Moses, administered justice, and governed the people. New Testament elders shepherded the church and exercised oversight over the flock.
