Exile
Exile is the forced removal of people from their homeland. In biblical history it especially refers to the deportation of Israel and Judah by Assyria and Babylon, followed by the later return of some Jewish exiles to Jerusalem.
Biblical Usage
The northern kingdom was deported to Assyria, while Judah experienced successive deportations to Babylon, including the removal of royal persons, leaders, warriors, artisans, and others. Some exiles later returned to Jerusalem under Persian permission.
