Father
A father is an immediate male parent, ancestor, family head, or respected elder. Scripture also uses the term figuratively for a source, founder, teacher, ruler, or one whose character or influence is imparted to others; God is called Father in relation to His people.
Biblical Usage
The father’s authority and responsibility include loving, commanding, instructing, guiding, correcting, disciplining, and caring for children. “Father” may denote ancestors, patriarchs, spiritual forebears, a source or creator, or a revered superior. God is Father of His people, and believers are called His sons and address Him as Father.
