FISHING
Fishing in biblical lands was done with hooks, spears, and especially nets cast from shore or boats. Several Gospel disciples earned their livelihood as fishermen before following Jesus.
Biblical Usage
The disciples’ fishing in the Gospel accounts involved nets, especially in the stories of their calling and in the catch recorded in John 21. Jesus also indicated that fishing with a hook was known when He instructed Peter to catch a fish in Matthew 17:27.
