Gehenna
Gehenna originally referred to the Valley of Hinnom near Jerusalem, associated with idolatrous child sacrifice and judgment. In the New Testament it denotes the place of final punishment, portrayed as a place of fire for the wicked.
Biblical Usage
In the New Testament Gehenna denotes the place of eternal punishment for the wicked. It is associated with fire and with the casting of both body and soul into judgment. The term is commonly translated “hell.”
