Gideon
Gideon, also called Jerubbaal, was a judge of Israel whom God raised to deliver Israel from Midianite oppression. With only three hundred men, he defeated the Midianite host and brought peace to the land for forty years.
Biblical Usage
Gideon destroyed Baal’s altar, gathered Israel, and defeated the Midianite army with only three hundred men, using trumpets, pitchers, and torches. Israel then had peace for forty years. He refused kingship on the ground that the Lord should rule Israel, though the ephod he made later became a temptation to idolatry.
