Guard
A guard could be a royal bodyguard, courier, soldier, executioner, watchman, or military watch, depending on the context. Biblical guards served kings, guarded prisoners and places, and in the New Testament watched Jesus’ tomb.

Biblical guards served kings, carried messages, guarded prisoners and dangerous places, assisted at the temple, and watched Jesus’ tomb. The Roman guard at the tomb consisted of soldiers relieved at stated intervals.
