Heir
An heir is one who receives a family possession or inheritance. Biblical law chiefly assigned inheritance to sons, with special provisions for daughters, while the New Testament describes Christ and believers as heirs of God’s promises.
Biblical Usage
The New Testament calls Christ the heir of all things and describes believers as heirs of the promise, righteousness, the kingdom, the world, and God. Believers are also described as joint heirs with Christ. The word can mean either a literal recipient of property or a recipient of God’s promised gift.
