High priest

Temple & Tabernacle • Both
The high priest was Israel’s chief priest, descended from Aaron and distinguished by special garments and duties. He alone entered the holy of holies once each year on the Day of Atonement, a ministry understood as foreshadowing Christ’s priesthood.
Biblical Usage
Only the high priest entered the holy of holies, and that only once a year on the Day of Atonement. He offered incense and sprinkled the blood of the sin offering on the mercy seat. The office and its ministry are presented as typifying Christ’s priesthood.
