Holiness
Doctrine & Theology • Both
Holiness is separation from what is common and dedication to God, expressing both God’s absolute purity and the righteous character He requires. Believers are called to grow in holiness through consecration and obedience.
Biblical Usage
The Old Testament applies holiness ceremonially to the sanctuary, sacrifices, Sabbath, priests, Levites, Nazirites, and Israel as a people separated to God. It also develops an ethical meaning. In the New Testament holiness is chiefly ethical and spiritual: Christians are separated to God and called to pursue holy character through the Spirit.
