Holy place
Temple & Tabernacle • Old Testament
The holy place was the outer chamber of the tabernacle and temple sanctuary. It contained the lampstand, table of showbread, and altar of incense, and was separated from the holy of holies by a veil.
Biblical Usage
Priests entered the holy place as representatives of the people, while the holy of holies represented the more immediate divine presence. Hebrews uses the sanctuary’s divisions in explaining Christ’s passage through the earthly tabernacle into the heavenly holy of holies.
