Hornet
The hornet is mentioned as an instrument by which God drove the Canaanites from before Israel. The references may describe literal stinging insects, or the terror and confusion God sent upon Israel’s enemies.
Biblical Usage
Hornets appear only in passages describing God’s intervention against the Hivites, Canaanites, and Hittites. The references may indicate literal hornets, or the terror and confusion sent by God upon Israel’s enemies; the surrounding language connects the hornet with divine terror and discomfiture.
