Horse

Agriculture & Daily Life • Both
The horse in Scripture is chiefly associated with warfare, cavalry, and chariots. Israel initially had few horses, but their use increased under David and especially Solomon; Scripture also uses the horse to portray strength and battle.
Biblical Usage
For a long period Israel made little use of horses, but David formed a cavalry force and Solomon greatly multiplied horses through his connection with Egypt. Horses were ridden and driven in chariots, and were sometimes associated with idolatrous processions. Their strength illustrates the greater strength of God, while the bridle illustrates control.
