Hosanna

Worship & Prayer • New Testament
Hosanna means “save now” or “save, we pray.” It became a joyful cry of praise and welcome, especially when the crowds greeted Jesus as the Son of David entering Jerusalem.
Biblical Usage
The crowds proclaimed “Hosanna to the Son of David” and connected the cry with the one coming in the name of the Lord and with the King of Israel. Children used it when Jesus cleansed the temple. Thus Hosanna functions as praise and welcome to the Messiah, with salvation still included in its meaning.
