Hoshea

People & Groups • Old Testament
Hoshea was the last king of the northern kingdom of Israel. He rebelled against Assyria, was imprisoned, and saw Samaria captured and the Israelites deported.
Biblical Usage
Hoshea’s reign appears in the history of Israel’s judgment. He did evil in the sight of the Lord, though not as the earlier kings. His failure to maintain tribute and his appeal to Egypt brought Assyrian intervention and the deportation of the northern Israelites.
