Hospitality
Hospitality is the welcoming and care of strangers, travelers, and those in need. Scripture commends it as a virtue, and the New Testament urges believers to practice it willingly and without complaint.
Biblical Usage
The law repeatedly enforces compassion for strangers because Israel had been a stranger in Egypt. Abraham and Lot exemplify hospitality. The New Testament urges believers to pursue hospitality, practice it without complaint, and remember Abraham’s example; a bishop must be hospitable. The Good Samaritan provides a lasting example of such care.
