Hunting
Agriculture & Daily Life • Both
Hunting was practiced for food, protection from dangerous animals, and sometimes sport. Biblical references mention bows, snares, nets, pits, and the pursuit of animals and birds.
Biblical Usage
Nimrod is presented as a mighty hunter, and Esau as a skillful hunter. Scripture refers to hunting for food and the destruction of beasts, while hunting imagery represents war, pursuit, danger, and entrapment. New Testament language also uses hunting and snare imagery figuratively.
