Incense
Worship & Prayer • Both
Incense was a fragrant mixture burned in Israel’s tabernacle and temple worship according to God’s prescribed directions. Its rising fragrance symbolized prayer offered before God.
Biblical Usage
Incense accompanied offerings, was burned morning and evening on the golden altar, and was offered by the high priest on the Day of Atonement. Scripture connects its rising fragrance with prayer. In Revelation, incense is associated with the prayers of the saints.
