Iniquity is moral crookedness, perversity, or deviation from what is right. The word may also refer to the guilt incurred by sin or the punishment that follows it.
Biblical Usage
In Scripture, iniquity may mean evil conduct, guilt, or the penalty of guilt. To “bear iniquity” commonly means to bear its consequences, though it may also refer to bearing another’s iniquity. The Servant of Yahweh is said to bear the iniquities of the people. In the New Testament the term includes lawlessness and unrighteousness.
