JORDAN VALLEY

Places & Geography • Both
The Jordan Valley is the great north-south depression through which the Jordan flows from the upper valley and Sea of Galilee to the Dead Sea. Its lower portion lies far below sea level and includes the fertile Ghor and the river’s wooded floodplain.
Biblical Usage
The valley forms the setting for biblical references to the Jordan, including its overflowing banks during the spring floods. Its river, plains, and surrounding regions appear in the geographical background of Israel’s history.
