Josiah
People & Groups • Old Testament
Josiah was a godly king of Judah who began reigning as a child. He suppressed idolatry, repaired the temple, renewed the covenant after the Book of the Law was found, and died in battle against Pharaoh Necho.
Biblical Usage
Josiah is presented as one of the foremost kings of Judah for his devotion to Jehovah and his religious reforms. Nevertheless, judgment against Judah was not turned aside. He died opposing Pharaoh-necho at Megiddo and was mourned by the nation.
