LAP
The lap is the fold or bosom of a person’s garment, often used symbolically in gestures or statements of consequence. The verb “lap,” however, refers to animals noisily licking up water.
Biblical Usage
The lap appears in Proverbs, Kings, and Nehemiah in connection with clothing folds and symbolic action. Nehemiah shook out his lap as a warning against those who failed to keep their promise. The verb is used of dogs and Gideon’s warriors drinking water.
