A lie is an intentional violation of the truth. Scripture consistently condemns lying, although it records instances in which various people spoke falsely.
Biblical Usage
Lying is condemned in passages including John 8:44, 1 Timothy 1:9-10, and Revelation 21:27; 22:15. Lies are attributed in the biblical record to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, the Hebrew midwives, Michal, and David.
