Lot

Other • Both
A lot was a small stone or similar object used to determine a division, choice, or decision under God’s providence. Lot also denotes an inheritance or portion; the biblical Lot was Abraham’s nephew.
Biblical Usage
Lots were used in dividing Canaan, detecting Achan, choosing Saul, assigning priestly duties, determining the goat for the Day of Atonement, and choosing Matthias. Lot, Abraham’s nephew, accompanied Abraham, separated from him, lived in Sodom, was rescued from captivity, and escaped the destruction of the cities of the plain.
