Messiah
Messiah means “Anointed One.” The title was used for consecrated priests and kings, but ultimately points to Jesus Christ, the promised Deliverer and King who fulfills the Old Testament hope of salvation.
Biblical Usage
The Messiah is presented as the coming ruler who embraces royal, prophetic, and priestly significance. Old Testament promises anticipate his coming, and the New Testament identifies Jesus as the Messiah. He is associated with David’s line, redemption, God’s kingdom, and the fulfillment of prophecy.
