Mill
A mill was used to grind grain between a stationary lower stone and a revolving upper stone. Hand mills were essential household equipment and could not be taken as a pledge because they provided daily food.
Biblical Usage
Millstones appear in descriptions of daily household work and judgment. The upper stone was used by the woman of Thebez against Abimelech, and a millstone illustrates the severity of the judgment described by Jesus.
