Mizpah
Mizpah, meaning “watch-tower,” was the name of several places, including sites in Gilead, Moab, and Benjamin. The Benjaminite Mizpah became a major place of national assembly, repentance, and worship under Samuel.
Biblical Usage
At various Mizpahs, Jacob and Laban established a memorial, Jephthah led Israel, David sent his parents for safety, and Israel assembled in national emergency. At Benjaminite Mizpah, Samuel called Israel to repentance and renewed covenant faithfulness; after victory over the Philistines he set up Ebenezer.
